About the team & this role

Sateliot develops its radio access software in-house, for both technologies our constellation serves: NB-IoT and 5G NR, in their non-terrestrial variants. That means satellite links, long delays, Doppler and discontinuous coverage, on real hardware and against real devices — non-terrestrial networks are one of the most active areas in telecoms right now, and here you work on the stack itself rather than on top of someone else's. As Senior RAN Software Engineer you will own radio stack development across both technologies, working closely with our stack architecture lead. It is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to build a radio stack, not integrate one.

What you'll do

• Own the design, development and evolution of our in-house radio stacks, with a first focus on NB-IoT: L1, L2 and L3, through to a component we can operate on our target hardware.

• Put in place the engineering that industrialisation needs: specification-driven development, hardware-independent design, a roadmap tied to the real state of the code, and CI/CD.

• Work across both radio technologies with the rest of the stack team, bringing hands to whichever one has the hardest problem at the time — the 5G scheduler and beam management among them.

• Prove the stack on real hardware and real devices — embedded platforms, commercial modules, and the compute and power envelope a satellite payload allows.

• Turn requirements into features: 3GPP releases, the capabilities our network roadmap commits to, and what the constellation can actually support.

What you bring

• Deep hands-on development experience of a cellular radio stack in C or C++ — PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP or RRC — with at least one full cycle owned through integration on real hardware.

• NB-IoT, LTE or 5G NR base station experience: what we need is stack-level ownership, not a specific technology.

• Embedded and real-time engineering on constrained hardware, with the profiling discipline to fit a radio stack into a tight compute and power budget.

• The ability to work from 3GPP and O-RAN specifications and prove conformance, and to use AI-assisted development with the judgement to validate what it produces.

• Experience porting and optimising a radio stack between x86 and Arm targets, and designing the platform boundary so that a port stays a port rather than becoming a fork.

Bonus if you have

• Non-terrestrial networks: satellite links, long delays, Doppler, discontinuous coverage.

• Having taken a radio prototype through to a productised, maintained component.

• Test automation and continuous integration for radio software.

Additional requirements

• We would prefer you based in Barcelona, where the labs and most of the team sit, and part of this work happens at the bench. For the right person the location is negotiable, India included, with regular time on site.

• Working proficiency in English.
