Flight Software Engineer Trainee
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based satellite company with one goal: connect everything, everywhere. Founded in 2018, we've built the first satellite constellation that lets standard commercial devices communicate directly from space. Our technology bridges the gaps that terrestrial networks will never reach, bringing affordable and secure connectivity to industries, governments, and communities across the planet.

About the team & this role
The Mission and Systems Engineering team is responsible for the development, integration and validation of the satellite’s core avionics and on-board software, ensuring reliable operation across all spacecraft subsystems.
As a Flight Software Engineer Intern, you’ll join the team developing and validating the On-Board Software (OBSW) for Sateliot’s satellites. You’ll contribute to real flight-software activities, automated testing and laboratory integration while learning from experienced engineers and collaborating with the Systems, Hardware, AIT and Operations teams.
What you'll do
Contribute to the design, implementation and maintenance of on-board software components in C or C++.
Write and run unit and integration tests, analyse the results and help maintain clear verification evidence.
Support the integration of the on-board software with spacecraft subsystems using laboratory benches and the FlatSat.
Help investigate software, hardware and interface issues using logs, debuggers and other engineering tools.
Take part in code reviews and team workflows, including Git, documentation and continuous integration.
What you bring
Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
Solid foundations in C or C++, gained through coursework, academic projects or personal projects.
Basic understanding of embedded systems and an interest in learning about real-time operating systems and spacecraft software.
A curious and structured approach to problem-solving, attention to quality, and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.
Bonus if you have
Python or another scripting language for automation, data analysis or test tooling.
An academic, personal or student-team project involving embedded software, a microcontroller or a single-board computer.
Familiarity with interfaces or protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, RS-422 or RS-485.
Experience using Linux, Git and basic collaborative software-development workflows.
Exposure to unit testing, CI/CD.
An interest in space systems and safety-critical software.
Participation in a CubeSat, robotics, Formula Student, engineering club, research group or similar hands-on project.
Additional requirements
Based in Barcelona: this is a hybrid internship with regular on-site presence at our Barcelona HQ, where the hardware benches and FlatSat are.
Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a relevant programme and eligible to sign an internship agreement with your university or study centre, where required.
How we work
We lead with humility, move fast, and take ownership. We collaborate without ego and measure ourselves by real impact, not titles or hierarchy. We hire people who already live these values.
