About the team & this role
Sateliot team is now in the process of building its first internally developed satellite. A <200kg innovative LEO 5G-NTNcommunications satellite, that will be followed by tens of units in the next couple of years with a target of over 400 satellites by 2030. To achieve that objective AIT team is working to develop a streamlined process with smart EGSE and automation techniques. The selected candidate will join our team to develop EGSE, hardware test automation and participate in our first satellite AIT activities. We are looking for a thinkerer, someone who is hands on and has a diverse set of skillsets with a strong foundation on electronics first followed by a good set of scripting skills.
What you'll do
Own the EGSE that the AIT campaign runs on: Design, build and validate the electrical ground support equipment for our satellites: flight and test harnesses, breakout and interface boards, umbilical and stimulus boxes, power and monitoring benches. Your hardware is what the rest of the team plugs the satellite into every day.
Turn manual bench work into automated, repeatable test setups: Write the Python that drives our lab instruments (power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum and network analysers, environmental chambers), sequences functional checks, logs data and produces verification evidence without anyone transcribing a number by hand.
Be the person who finds the fault: Debug at board, harness and system level, from continuity and isolation checks to decoding bus traffic and chasing intermittent behaviour across the satellite's electrical architecture, and close the loop with the design teams so it does not come back.
Get the satellite through electrical integration and verification: Execute electrical interface verification, functional and performance testing during integration and environmental campaigns (TVAC, vibration, anechoic chamber), on site and at external facilities, and produce the test procedures and reports that go with them.
Make it scale from one satellite to hundreds: Convert what worked once into tooling, procedures and test data that a production line can repeat, so each satellite takes less time and less human intervention than the last.
What you bring
Real hardware ownership: 4+ years designing, building and debugging electronics you were responsible for end to end: schematic capture and PCB design (Altium Designer or equivalent), harness design and manufacture, connector and pinout definition, and the documentation behind it.
Strong practical debugging skills: You are fast and methodical with an oscilloscope, logic analyser, multimeter and bench supply, comfortable probing live hardware, and you reason from schematics and datasheets rather than trial and error. You are at ease with the usual low-level interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, RS-422/485, Ethernet).
Python for test automation: Proven experience automating laboratory equipment and test benches: instrument control (SCPI, VISA/pyVISA or equivalent), serial and Ethernet interfaces, data acquisition, logging, post-processing and simple operator-facing tooling.
Experience writing and running test procedures: You have developed and executed verification and validation procedures for electronic hardware, and you work comfortably in English with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
Bonus if you have
Experience in space or NewSpace hardware, familiarity with ECSS standards, or participation in satellite AIT and environmental test campaigns.
Hands-on skills in soldering, rework and crimping, ideally with IPC or ECSS workmanship standards previous experience or certification.
Additional requirements
On-site presence at our Barcelona HQ and cleanroom: this is a hands-on hardware role that constrains remote work oportunities.
Availability for occasional extended hours and shift work around integration milestones, environmental test campaigns and launch, and for occasional international travel to supplier and test facilities.
The applicant must be eligible to work and live in the EU.
