GSE&Test Mechanical Engineer
WHO ARE WE?
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.
In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers. Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.
YOUR MISSION
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with expertise in space industry, automation or similar industry that is both linked to manufacturing and mechanical testing of complex systems at very high quality.
As announced on November Sateliot is targeting the deployment of over 400 small satellites by 2030. At this stage the first systems are being developed, the selected person will be joining a small MAIT (Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Test ) team being one of first mechanical engineers within the company.
The selected person will be responsible for designing mechanical Ground Support Equipment (GSE) design for the satellite industry, lead development of mechanical satellite test and metrology approach for the project. This role requires hands-on satellite systems and participation on test campaigns requiring both independent work and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate will be a versatile, independent problem-solver with a passion for space exploration and technology.
YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS
Designing mechanical jigs, interfaces and mechanisms for Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to facilitate Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Test (MAIT) activities.
Prepare environmental test, measurement, alignment and verification procedures for a prototype satellite system.
Evaluate mechanical environmental test campaign results including vibration and thermal.
Utilize SolidWorks (or similar CAD tools) to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for developed systems.
Perform or collaborate on thermal, structural, vibration, and environmental testing of components to validate designs.
Work closely with electrical engineers, system engineers, and other disciplines to ensure systems integration and performance.
Develop documentation to ensure proper use and handling of designed GSE and subsystems by the MAIT team
Work with procurement team to ensure designed GSE and required external suppliers deliver the systems on time and at required quality.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to define metrology approach and select any special measurement equipment or measurement suppliers
REQUIREMENTS
Educational background in mechanical engineering or equivalent through experience
6+ years of experience in mechanical design, with focus on manufacturing mechanisms, structures and jigs, systems that work in harsh environments and high quality manufacturing requirements.
Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar CAD software) for mechanical design and modeling.
Proven experience on designing GSE for testing applications, integration jigs or similar mechanical structures and mechanisms
Relevant experience in high quality manufacturing environments
Understanding of high level spacecraft design requirements
Ability to work independently and self starter attitude
Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to addressing engineering challenges.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and writing technical reports.
NICE TO HAVE
Previous experience designing space industry mechanical systems and participation on qualification and acceptance campaigns.
Hands-on experience with thermal analysis and simulations using tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar software.
Knowledge of space-qualified materials and manufacturing techniques (e.g., high-strength alloys, composites, and advanced coatings).
Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for spacecraft design and testing (e.g., NASA, ESA, ECSS, ISO, etc.).
Familiarity with system-level integration and testing of spacecraft subsystems.
Experience with the development of small satellite systems.
