Senior UE Engineer
WHO ARE WE?
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.
In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers. Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.
YOUR MISSION
You will take full ownership of the User Equipment (UE) domain, acting as the central technical authority for all device-related matters. Your mission is to ensure that UE capabilities are perfectly aligned with our RAN and Core Network architecture, driving the strategy for UE integration, validation, and certification. You will manage key relationships with chipset vendors and ensure our service is built on a foundation of robust, reliable, and high-performing UEs that can overcome the unique challenges of satellite connectivity, such as context preservation and radio link stability.
YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Vendor Technical Management: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for all UE and chipset partners, driving technical discussions and resolving complex integration challenges.
- UE Feature & Validation Strategy: Define and document the required UE features, protocol behaviors, and performance criteria for our NTN service. Develop comprehensive validation and testing strategies to ensure compliance and interoperability.
- Device Certification Program Leadership: Design, structure, and lead the internal certification program for all new UE modules and terminals. Collaborate with the User Segment team to transition the execution of the certification plan.
- End-to-End Troubleshooting: Lead deep-dive investigations into complex UE-related issues, analyzing logs and working with vendors to find root causes for problems such as context preservation failures, MO data acknowledgement issues, and radio link failures.
- Requirements Definition & Documentation: Own and maintain the official device requirements documentation, ensuring it serves as the single source of truth for internal teams and external partners.
REQUIREMENTS
- Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A Ph.D. degree is a plus.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in the telecommunications industry, with a strong focus on UE/device engineering, testing, and integration.
- In-depth knowledge of 3GPP standards for 4G (LTE, NB-IoT) and 5G, with a focus on UE protocols (RRC, NAS) and procedures.
- Proven experience working directly with UE/chipset vendors on technical integration and troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex issues from an end-to-end perspective using device and network-side logs.
- Solid understanding of UE testing methodologies, certification processes, and AT command interfaces.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and multicultural team.
- Proficiency in English is mandatory.
NICE TO HAVE
- Direct experience with Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) integration and testing is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with specific IoT chipsets and modules (e.g., Nordic nRF91 series).
- Experience with UE test equipment, such as protocol analyzers and channel emulators.
- Familiarity with SIM/UICC technology and related standards.
