WHO ARE WE?

Sateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.

In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers. Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.

YOUR MISSION

As a Core Network Engineer at Sateliot, you will be a key player in the evolution and operation of our unique satellite-based 5G Core Network. Your mission will be twofold: first, to enhance and optimize our current EPC for our current satellite missions, ensuring stability and introducing new, critical features for our Store & Forward service. Second, you will play a pivotal role in investigating, designing, and defining the implementation roadmap for the next evolution of our Core Network. This future-facing work is essential to support the advanced services and capabilities of our next-generation constellation, with a strong focus on scalability and resilience.

YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS

Contribute to the development, maintenance, and optimization of our existing Core Network.
Design, implement, and validate new 3GPP-compliant features to enhance our Store & Forward (S&F) service and improve multi-satellite operations.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to the core network and services during development and operational phases.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (RAN, Payload, DevOps) to ensure seamless integration and deployment of CN software updates.
Conduct testing and validation of core network functionalities to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Participate in the investigation and evaluation of system requirements for the evolution of the Core Network.
Drive the architectural design of the evolution of the Core Network, considering scalability, support for new operational modes.
Evaluate and prototype solutions using different frameworks, including open-source (e.g., Open5GS) and commercial platforms.
Identify essential protocols, interfaces, and functionalities for the next-generation 4G/5G core network.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in 3GPP standards (EPC and 5GC), NTN technologies, and industry trends to guide Sateliot's CN roadmap.
Contribute to the documentation, presentations, and knowledge-sharing activities related to the core network domain.
Support network trials and proof-of-concepts (PoCs).

REQUIREMENTS

Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A Ph.D degree is a plus.
In-depth knowledge of 3GPP standards for 4G (Release 11-15) and 5G (Release 15-19), with focus on the core network architecture, protocols, and call flows.
Solid knowledge of 4G/EPC core network elements (MME, S-GW, P-GW, HSS) and 5G Core (5GC) architecture (AMF, SMF, UPF), related interfaces and protocols (S1-AP, NAS, GTP-C/U, Diameter).
Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., C/C++) and scripting languages (e.g., Python) for prototyping, testing, and automation.
Solid knowledge of network protocols and technologies, including IPv4/IPv6, TCP/IP, UDP, SCTP.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues from an end-to-end perspective.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and multicultural team.
Ability to work independently, drive initiatives, and adapt to evolving technologies and project requirements.
Proficiency in English is mandatory.

NICE TO HAVE

3+ years hands-on experience in telecommunications, with emphasis on integration, configuration, and testing of 3GPP wireless core networks.
Hands-on experience with roaming configurations and inter-PLMN connectivity solutions
Proven experience with open-source core-network platforms (e.g., Magma Core, Open5GS, OpenAirInterface, srsLTE, free5GC).
Proven experience in network troubleshooting and root-cause analysis through network diagnostics tools, e.g., Wireshark, packet sniffers, performance monitoring systems, etc.
Experience with Direct-to-Device (D2D) or Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) integration and testing is highly desirable.
Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with network simulation/emulation and testing tools for validating core network functionalities.
Experience with Agile development methodologies.
