FPGA Architect
WHO ARE WE?
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.
In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers. Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.
YOUR MISSION
In your role as a FPGA Architect, you will join the Payload Communications team and work in collaboration with an assembly of skilled engineers in charge of evolving Sateliot’s space capabilities to provide the first and best 5G IoT NTN service to emerging users around the world.
You will lead the design, implementation and validation of the Low-PHY firmware layer, including digital beamforming, for our 5G IoT Satellite Payload. Your contributions will be crucial throughout various phases of the Sateliot solution evolution, from conceptualization and lab testing to in-orbit testing and the operational phase of the service.
YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Work closely with a team of DSP/Embedded Software engineers on the design, development, integration and testing of the 5G Low-PHY over an advanced FPGA platform
- Leading the design and architecture of the Low-PHY firmware across a distributed SoC architecture (MCU, CPU, DSP/FPGA/ASICs), ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical standards.
- Implementation of high-speed serial interfaces (Ethernet, USB, PCIe, JESD204, SerDes, etc..).
- Implementation of the required ORAN/FAPI protocols interfacing the High-PHY and Stack
- Convert DSP algorithms from C-code to efficient RTL using High-Level Synthesis tools
- Collaborating with cross-functional satellite teams to define firmware requirements and create architectural blueprints.
- Evaluating and selecting appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks to meet project needs.
- Overseeing the implementation of firmware architectures, providing guidance and mentorship to development teams.
- Conducting architectural reviews and ensuring adherence to best practices and coding standards.
- Documenting architectural designs and decisions, ensuring clear communication and understanding across teams.
- Identifying and addressing technical risks and challenges, ensuring the delivery of scalable and maintainable software solutions.
- Staying updated with the latest industry trends and advancements, incorporating new technologies and methodologies as appropriate.
- Mentor and provide relevant training to the team members where applicable.
- Define the software processes, align with the organization and document with good quality for the other teams
- Any other duties commensurate with the role, as may reasonably be requested by the line manager to support departmental goals.
REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in electronic engineering, aerospace or related subject
- Experience in firmware design and FPGA platform selection for the space environment
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role in an industrial environment.
- Experience of high-speed digital interface design including PCIe Gen3/4 and JESD204b/c standards and SerDes
- Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale, complex FPGA-based systems, using VHDL or Verilog.
- Familiarity with 3GPP standards and particular knowledge of 5G IoT NTN specifications is a plus.
- Previous experience in the NewSpace field and/or IoT sector is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to address technical challenges with innovative solutions using efficient debugging methodologies.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and third-party providers.
- Ability to support Hardware design during product development.
- Experience in mentoring and guiding development teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of design and testing activities.
- Strong organizational skills to manage deadlines and shifting priorities.
- An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities.
